TOWN LOOK TO BUILD ON FIRST WIN

TOWN LOOK TO BUILD ON FIRST WIN

Aberdare Town have had a tough start to the new season with the opening weeks of the season seeing almost three quarters of the squad suffering injuries and boss Matt Driscoll has still not been able to field his strongest team.

There was an opening day 2-1 defeat at Risca United with Shay Friel scoring the consolation goal for Aber while the second game saw a 3-1 defeat at one of this seasons title favourites Pontypridd Town with another new signing Rhys Tandy with the goal in that particular game.

Last Saturday Driscoll was able to finally call upon summer signings Lee Hartshorn and Rhys Jones and their arrival, coupled with the signings last week of new striker Seb Haggett from Afan Lido and Levi Jones from English side Cribbs FC saw some of the pre-season optimism return as they picked up their first win of the campaign beating Dinas Powys 2-1 in the Welsh Cup.

Haggett wasted no time in introducing himself to the Aberaman Park crowd netting the opening goal within the opening 10 minutes and even though the visitors equalised before the break the experienced John Phillips headed home a winner in the second half.

Aberdare will now face another Division Two side in the 1st round of the Cup when Ammanford visit The Park.

This coming weekend Town will finally play their first home league game of the season when STM Sports visit Aberaman Park on Saturday with a 2.30pm kick off.

The Reserves have also had a difficult start to the season as their opening game was abandoned due to a serious leg injury to Mickey Edwards against Briton Ferry and everybody at the Club hope he has a speedy and full recovery.

Their second game was postponed due to the Dinas Powys cup tie and they will eventually get back onto the pitch this weekend when they make the journey to play Penybont.

The A Team however have started the season in the same way they finished the last picking up two wins from their first two games as they look to retain the league championship in the second division of the Aberdare Valley Football League.

Its been a busy time off the pitch as well for the Club having hosted a Cardiff City Legends team in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and on a wet Sunday afternoon the Bluebirds won 2-0.

The Club are still looking for match and ball sponsors for their home games and details are available on www.aberdaretownfc.co.uk  or email info@aberdaretownfc.co.uk
