A report CSSIW and SWP on sexual exploitation of children step and multi-agency working

The inspectorate and police held a joint conference in May will consider this issue.

The report published today – which brought together the feedback and discussions of the joint conference – that the lack of detailed and relevant information is often for children placed outside of the area available to the authority receiving local, children's homes, police and other agencies by the placing authority. This particularly applies if a child goes missing.

 

The lack of appropriate placements for children with complex needs will result in a lack of real choice. This affects the suitability of some settings made.

 

Locations will be unable to adequately respond to the needs of children will probably result in poor outcomes for children.

 

There was a clarion call to children's homes provide caring and stable environment, with considerable focus on values-based management and excellent trained staff.

 

We need all the bodies involved to do more to include children and young people in a meaningful way in planning their care.

 

There were 120 professionals attended the joint conference, including residential care providers and representatives of Welsh police forces, local authorities, the Welsh Government, the Children's Commissioner's office, CSSIW and the third sector.

 

Before the conference, expressed SWP increasing concern at the frequency with which they visit residential homes to deal with missing children and incidents of aggression and criminal damage.

 

Inspectorate Care and Social Services for Wales (CSSIW) is increasingly concerned about the high number of notifications about children's behavior and how they are to damage when exposed are children in the home.

 

Inspections of children's homes often cite high levels of staff turnover impact on children, and the difficulties in getting staff who are qualified to the required level.

 

The inspectors also aware of children being placed without agreeing on statutory services and therapeutic.

 

The conference was part of the response to the recommendations of CSSIW report of the Commissioner for Children 'The Right Care' (June 2016).
