July means one thing for Y Galeri Caerffili …..Barry Lewis and his sculptural menagerie and he returns next week w ith his annual summer display of w all hung and freestanding creatures constructed from obsolete items.
The unique v ision behind Barry’s w ork is about the transformation of things you and I might throw away, from rusty spoons and old toasters to salv aged bike and car parts that have outlived their use. The Rhondda based sculptor has gained much recognition in the past for his ingenious collections and with some new additions this show is going to amaze visitors to the gallery during its run.
His new Robo Rhino bike has already made its debut on the streets of both York and Berlin to the delight of the general public and passing traffic. His escapades went viral on Facebook and is likely to generate ev en more interest in Caerphilly next Friday w hen Barry and his friends takes Robo Rhino, Stag Bol Bike, and Moose Cycle for a collective spin alongside the Castle. Not quite the Velethon but Barry Lewis with his collection of bikes is going to be a w onderfully bizarre vision. Barry w ill be on the Castle path opposite the gallery betw een 12noon and 2pm. His exhibition goes on display in Y Galeri Caerffili from Tuesday 25 July until 2 September. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm. free admission.
