Carers raise £150 with cupcakes for charity

MEMBERS of staff at a care provider in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) raised £150 for a dementia charity by baking and selling cupcakes recently (June, 2017).

Carers and staff from Abacare took part in the Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day on June 15 and sold the cakes to raise money to fight dementia.

Sarah Williams, Registered Branch Manager at Abacare, said: “Many of our service users are affected by dementia so we feel it is extremely important to always do what we can to help outside of our usual care work.

“The Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day seemed like a great way to get all the staff involved and raise some much needed funds. We sold the cakes from our office and are thrilled to have raised so much for the charity.

“We wanted to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society. Just £40 raised will pay for five people with dementia to attend the charity’s Singing for the Brain session and £150 will pay for one of its National Dementia Helpline Advisors to provide 10 hours of crucial support to people affected by dementia.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Society dementia is the number one cause of death in England and Wales.

Last year, it’s Cupcake Day raised £330,000, which is the equivalent to funding 11 PhD researches for one year, giving them the opportunity to undertake vital, potentially lifesaving work.
