Expert Panel on Assembly Electoral Reform asks for views on young people’s participation in Assembly Elections
The Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales and the National Assembly for Wales’ Commission has begun undertaking work to assess the capacity of the Assembly.
As a result, the Llywydd has appointed an Expert Panel to review evidence and make recommendations on the number of Members the Assembly needs, the appropriate system for their election, and the minimum voting age for the elections.
Specifically for young people’s participation in elections, the Panel is seeking views on the following:
- “Do you have any evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, that young people want, or do not want, to see a reduction in the minimum voting age?
- Have 16 or 17 year-olds made any comments to you about not being able to vote in recent or upcoming elections?
- Would a reduction in the voting age have an impact on youth engagement or political participation? Are there other ways in which a similar impact could be achieved?”
To ensure that the Panel has time to properly take your views into account, please send responses by the 23 June 2017.
