Coram and The Wales Adoption Register host first ever ‘Adoption Activity Day’ in Wales to help find families for vulnerable children

On Saturday 11 March, children’s charity Coram, in conjunction with The Wales Adoption Register, hosted the first ever Adoption Activity Day in Wales to help match children awaiting adoptive families in the country with potential adopters.

The Adoption Activity Day, held in Cardiff, enabled prospective adopters to meet children awaiting adoption, in a prepared, supported, safe and fun environment. The day involved play, activities and entertainment to encourage positive interaction between the children and prospective adopters.

Adoption Activity Days are organised by a specialist team at Coram, which runs one of the UK’s most successful independent adoption services, and has been helping to find adoptive families for vulnerable children for over 40 years.

The events have been attended by over a thousand children and prospective adopters across England, and Coram is now working with The Wales Adoption Register to deliver the service in Wales.

Sally Beaumont, Service Manager at Coram said: “Adoption Activity Days are an important part of the range of family-finding and matching practices for children, and are particularly helpful for children who have been waiting longer for an adoptive family.

“We are delighted to work with The Wales Adoption Register to introduce the service in Wales and hope it will help to improve and speed up the matching process so that more vulnerable children in the country can find a secure and loving family.”

In order to attend an Adoption Activity Day, prospective adopters must be referred by supervising social workers. They may be referred prior to approval if they are in stage 2 of the assessment process with a positive recommendation. Referrals are free of charge.
