Children seek damages from Council after being left with neglectful parents
The Official Solicitor has taken legal action against Swansea Council over a case where children were not taken into care but left with neglectful parents.
Four children say social workers left them with drug addicted parents who lived in dirty conditions, despite numerous police visits to their home.
They seek £200,000 in damages for the council’s alleged failure to protect them from abuse and neglect.
The Official Solicitor acts where claimants are unable to use the justice system because they are young or lack mental capacity.
A Swansea Council spokesperson said: “As legal proceedings are on-going, it would be inappropriate to comment about this particular case which dates back 10 years. The safeguarding and well-being of children, however, is the number one priority for Swansea children services and the wider council.”
