Local government settlement a ‘hammer blow’ for Rural Wales
Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party have today implemented a local government settlement which is deeply damaging for rural Wales.
Liberal Democrat Assembly Members failed to oppose the settlement, which delivers savage, three percent cuts to the funding of Powys, Ceredigion and Monmouthshire.
Welsh Conservatives continue to call for the formula used to determine local government funding to be reformed, as the current system unduly penalises rural areas.
Speaking after the Senedd vote, Shadow Local Government Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, said:
"Lib Dems have duly stood back, as Labour Ministers drive through a deeply damaging settlement for rural Wales.
"Welsh Conservatives continue to call for a review of the formula which allocates funding to Councils across Wales.
"We need to secure real change for our rural communities; who are sick and tired of being hit disproportionately by Welsh Government settlements.”
