Scaremongering doesn’t help rational EU debate, says Andrew RT Davies

Commenting on the launch of Labour’s Wales in Europe campaign on Monday, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, said:

“The First Minister’s dramatic scaremongering does nothing to aid rational debate about Wales’ future within the European Union.

“Polling consistently shows a difference of opinion – from the public at large, in the business community and elsewhere – concerning our future membership. Reform and a straight in-out referendum is what people want.

“It’s thanks to Conservatives at Westminster that communities across Wales are able to have this debate – allowing people to make an informed choice about our future relationship with the EU.”

Responding specifically to claims from the First Minister that farming would “effectively come to an end” in Wales if the UK was to leave the European Union, Mr Davies added:

“The real threat to farming in Wales is this tired Labour administration; who have inflicted cuts to the Agriculture and Food budget; and deny our farming communities the representation they deserve at the Welsh cabinet table.

“When it comes the future security of Wales’ proud communities, you can’t trust Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party”.
