End of era for South Wales Police
It’s the end of era for South Wales and Gwent Police as traditional pocket notebooks are being replaced with state-of-the-art mobile devices.
We have introduced the new devices to make officers more efficient and maximise time spent in the community.
Officers can now search, record and share information with victims, witnesses and offenders without the need to return to the station and therefore spend more time being visible.
Our officers first started using mobile devices in 2010 but their new Samsung Galaxy Note 4s, which are still being rolled out across the force, have even more capability.
The two key features designed to make officers more efficient are E-pocket Notebook (e-PNB) and I-Patrol.
The e-PNB allows officers to record and present evidence far more professionally and far more transparently.
I-Patrol is a mobile application designed to enable officers to search, record and share police information with victims, witnesses and offenders and to conduct other key operational processes without the need to return to the station.
As well as the new handheld devices, we have upgraded our current command and control and record management systems.
