WRU School Rugby Officers

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Cameron Douglas and Owen Young to School Rugby Officers who will be responsible for delivering the WRU’s mandate for promoting rugby within the school and our feeder primary schools.

This is an excellent initiative, we will be looking to coach all young rugby players and to develop young rugby players within our community. The targeted coaching will contribute to the growth and development of player numbers in the primary schools and at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School. We will also be promoting, engaging and supporting the student’s transition into community clubs. The focus will vary between holistic health promotion, physical literacy development and all forms of rugby.

There is a strong sports coaching programme already existing within the PE department and through the WRU officers we will extend this further. There will be the opportunity for our students to complete the WRU referees course for school children and also the Rugby leader’s award for the younger students and progressing onto the Level 1 course for the senior students.

In addition to strengthening and developing all rugby year groups we will be introducing a senior rugby team, the boys are excited for the new challenge and are looking forward to training and playing senior matches for the school. We will also be introducing Girls Rugby into the curriculum, after school and within the community.

We are very excited about this new opportunity as it will further develop the current rugby links and success whilst promoting all aspects of wellbeing for the students.

Spread the love
