New girls football team

Thanks to recent investment from Sport Wales, Sport RCT and Cynon Taff Housing, Game On Wales have managed to set up a new local Girls’ Football team in partnership with Aberdare Town FC.

Early research by Game On Wales with over 200 girls aged 11-16 in RCT identified a huge interest in the game but a lack of provision in key areas of RCT, especially in the upper Cynon valley. Since September, Game On Wales has been running training sesssions for girls aged 11-16 in the area on Thursday nights at Abercwmboi RFC 3G pitch from 5-6pm. This has been underpinned by taster sessions in a number of local schools by Ceri Hudson and Louise Pugh who are both University of South Wales Sport Students.

Aberdare Town FC is an aspiring local football club with fantastic facilities, and already have a women’s team competing in the South Wales Women’s and Girls’ League. The Girls’ first fixture will be a mini 5-a-side tournament on Thursday 12th November, 7pm at Aberdare Town FC under the floodlights.
