PCSO Coleen Jones recently attended a Macmillan Coffee Morning at St Winifred’s Church in Penywaun.

PCSO Jones said: “It was a great opportunity to meet with members of the local community from local youths to more elderly members of the area whilst raising money for a great cause.

“Putting older people first and extending a helping hand to the elderly in our communities is important. It was great to be on hand to offer advice on home security, personal safety, as well as general crime prevention.

“Often as PCSOs we act as the eyes and ears of the community, reaching out to those most in need and reporting back on the issues we need to be tackling with our partners. By making personal contact at coffee mornings such as these we aim to reduce both crime and fear of crime amongst our older residents.

PCSO Coleen Jones continued: “By gaining personal knowledge of, and forming relationships with, older people who for various reasons may have limited contact is important. By chatting to them at events like this we aim to reduce the fear of crime amongst the elderly. It is important that we manage the impact this fear of crime has on the quality of life for the elderly in our community.”
