Nat West in Pentre latest bank closure in RCT
Nat West bank has announced that it intends to shut another four branches in Wales bringing up to a dozen the number they have said in recent weeks are earmarled for closure. They blame a "marked decline in usage" of around 32%. The Pentre branch in the Rhondda is set to close its doors for the final time on 8th December.
Customers have been sent letter advising them of the plans, where to locate ther nearest branch and how they can use the Post Office for paying in money.
Karen Roberts RCT Welsh Liberal Democrat Campaign Manager, said
"The Pentre branch is the last remaining Nat West in the Rhondda so customers will have to travel to Pontypridd or Aberdare for their closest branch if they need to visit on business. Many will no doubt vote with their feet and move to another bank.
"The problem is that all the main banks are cutting back on services as the customer foot fall decreases. This comes close behind the announcement that Barclays are pulling out of Tonyrefail and HBCS have already cut back the services available in its Treorchy branch amongst others.
"In part it is understandable but it is galling for customers to see their services reduced whilst those at the top end of the banking industry continue to receive large bonuses. However there are many people who still want face to face contact at their bank and for businesses in the locality it is an essential service."
