Aberdare Community School GCSE Examination Success

We are delighted that following fast on the success of our older students who gained exceptional Advanced Level results last week, our younger GCSE cohort have also achieved some excellent results. Congratulations to all who have received their results today, including those younger pupils who sat some modular exams, including some as young as 12 years old who sat Language exams. Well done to all!

Aberdare Community School was established in order to bring a strong teaching staff together and to raise standards significantly for the young people in Aberdare. Having only worked with the current year group for a mere 9  months we are delighted that our outcomes in maths and English are likely to place us among the top 25% similar schools in Wales. Many more pupils have achieved  5 A- C grades including GCSEs in English and maths compared to last year in fact we have raised this figure by an impressive 10% in our first year.

Sue Davies said ‘The staff have worked particularly hard to ensure that pupils were supported fully with good teaching and a lot of teacher support. The provision of after school revision sessions as well as early morning breakfast clubs for learners has made a massive difference to our pupils enabling them to compete with pupils from the best schools in Wales’.

Over a third of our pupils are entitled to Free School Meals which is nearly double the national average for Wales which is 17% – despite this our results show that we are making a huge difference to those learners. The number of Free School Meals pupils gaining 5 good GCSEs including English and maths has doubled this year. As a school we are determined to break the link between deprivation and achievement.

We would like to congratulate the following Year 11 pupils who achieved some very impressive results …
