Another blow for Porth as Post Office set to close

Staff at the Post Office in Porth have apparently been issued with redundancy notices and told the service there will be closing.

The business is currently located within the Lloyds pharmacy but Post Office Ltd have been advertising for new premises but it seems they have had no success.

RCT Welsh Liberal Democrat Campaign Manager Karen Roberts said

"The Porth branch is a main post office which offers a wide range of services. It is well used by local residents who will now have to travel out of the town. This will have knock on effects for other businesses in Porth which, like other town centres, has already seen trade hit by out of town centres and car park charges.

"It is another blow to the area which will anger residents. Porth fire station recently lost its fire station, and parents are currently fighting proposals by the Council to rearrange school service sand make Porth a 3 – 16 school.

"Many elderly people still like to go into their local post office and pick up their pension and pay their bills. Post Offices across the country provide an important community element and it is a real blow that so many are being closed."
