New £20 notes hitting Mountain Ash Post Office ATMs today
Post Office, who own and run the largest cash network across the UK, have announced today that seven of their ATMs around the country will be stocked with the new £20 polymer note from this afternoon. The new notes, which are smaller and more secure than the previous notes, will be available from the following Post Office ATMs;
The announcement comes as the Post Office’s second iteration of the Banking Framework went live at the start of the year. The Banking Framework allows most UK high street banking customers to withdraw cash, check their balance and deposit cash at any of the 11,500 Post Office branches across the UK.
There is £42 billion’s worth of £20 notes in circulation in the UK and within eight weeks, the Post Office expects 50% of the notes coming back into cash centres to be the new polymer note. Post Office will continue to allow customers to deposit withdrawn £20 notes into their UK bank account as well as using them for paying for goods and services.
With more branches than all of the UK’s banks and building societies combined, the Post Office plays a leading role in ensuring customers and small businesses have easy access tocash. 99% of personal customers and more than 75% of business customers can do their banking at the Post Office
Martin Kersley, Director of Banking Services said,
“The Post Office has been busy upgrading counting equipment, security boxes and ATMs to process the new notes. Post Office branches will start receiving the new notes from this Friday, with all our ATMs are being upgraded from today onwards, and will be complete by the end of March.
“We want to remind customers that, whether there is a bank branch nearby or not, they can come to any Post Office to access their bank account and deposit their old £20 notes. Thanks to an agreement with all UK high street banks, everyone can pay-in cash and cheques, including any old notes, into their usual high street bank account at their local Post Office branch.”
