On Wednesday’s First Minister deadlock
Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies AM has issued the following statement, in relation to talks following Wednesday's deadlock vote for the position of First Minister of Wales:
“Wales has fallen behind the rest of the UK under Labour.
“At the recent election, Labour were denied a majority once again and backed by less than 16% of voters – so any assumption that the Party had a divine right to the First Ministership was staggering.
“After 17 years of the same old thing, discussions which led to, and followed, Wednesday’s Senedd vote indicated an appetite to do things differently in Wales.
“Welsh Conservatives stand ready to continue exploring a new kind of collaborative politics, which delivers new, consensual solutions to improve our NHS, educational standards and the economy.
“This ambition needs to be matched by other political parties. We have an historic opportunity to break the mould in Wales, and really change things – but this will only be possible with clear enthusiasm from others.
“Should such ambition not be shown, and such innovative thinking not further explored in the interests of the people of Wales, Welsh Conservatives will not be minded to repeat our action from Wednesday’s vote.”
