Welsh Labour’s minister for climate change has withdrawn a statement on building safety in Wales from today’s agenda.

The Welsh Conservatives have called on Labour Ministers to move faster to tackle dangerous cladding in Wales.

Today marks the 5-year anniversary of the Grenfell Fire, where 72 people tragically lost their lives.

Concerningly, Labour’s minister for climate change has withdrawn a statement on building safety in Wales from today’s agenda.

Data released under the Freedom of Information Act, shows that the Labour Minister only met housing developers three times in 2021 for a grand total of 2 and a half hours.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Housing Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:

“As we remember the tragic loss of life in the Grenfell Fire, we must not forget the reality that there are still people in Wales living in flats with dangerous cladding.

“Labour Ministers in Cardiff Bay have been too slow to act with funding from the UK Government not being correctly allocated to building safety in Wales. To top it off, today the Minister withdrew a statement on building safety from the agenda.

“Labour Ministers have been far too slow to act and now need to ensure funding is rolled out in a quick and effective manner.”
