South Wales Police are reminding dog owners that, as of the 6th April 2016, the law regarding microchipping of dogs is changing in England, Scotland and Wales.

By 6 April, all dogs over eight weeks old will need to be microchipped – with their owners’ details then being registered on an approved database.

Your faithful friend must always wear a collar and tag when they are outside. Any dog in a public place must wear a collar or tag with the owner's name, address and postcode engraved or written on it, even if your dog is also microchipped. Incorporating a contact telephone number is also handy.

Extra advice can be sought from your local vets or animal welfare organisations.
