Please can you support Gareth Robbins so that he can raise as much money as possible for the Welsh Air Ambulance

On Saturday 8th September I will be running the Coed Morgannwg Way from Merthyr Tydfil to Margam Abbey over the mountains of South Wales, in memory of my late father Dil Robbins. My father was a Welsh international athlete and multiple Welsh Champion at distances ranging from 1 mile to the marathon, who tragically passed away aged 80yrs in November 2017. The reason for this run, is to celebrate his memory and also because 15 years ago to the day, he walked the Coed Morgannwg Way himself, he was 65yrs at the time. He set himself the challenge and after months of planning and scouting the route set off. It took him just under 14 hours. I intend to complete the 36 miles in 6 hours.

I would like to raise awareness of this run so that we can raise as much money as possible for the Air Ambulance and also so that if anyone sees me along the way they may give me some support. I am certainly going to need it.

My brother Jonathan, who will be cycling alongside me, and I are both former Welsh international athletes as well and feel that this is a fitting tribute to our father, who was also our coach throughout our athletics careers.

We will be setting off at 8am from the edge of the Gethin Woodland, just south of Merthyr Tydfil and near to the entrance of Bike Park Wales, from there we will climb and then descend into Aberdare, entering the Dare Valley Park, climbing to the top of Rhigos mountain, before descending again, through the Dare Forest, towards Glynneath.

Leaving the Dare Forest and into the Afan Forest, passing through Troed-y-Rhiw wind-farm above Abercregan on our way to Afan Argoed Park. Climbing the “Beast of Bryn” and passing through the village itself passing in front of the Royal Oak, before continuing towards Margam. Passing Bodvoc’s Stone before the final descent of Cwm Philip to Margam Abbey.

Any publicity would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
