Man arrested in connection with attempted murder following Gelli assault

Police in Rhondda have arrested a 33 year-old man in connection with a serious assault which occurred on Monday, 6 August, 2018, at approximately 4.15pm.
Officers were called to Gelli Road following reports that a woman had sustained puncture wounds following an attack – the individuals involved are believed to be known to one another.
The woman, 29, was taken to hospital with serious injuries by air ambulance – she is currently in a stable condition.
An investigation is ongoing into the incident which is being treated as attempted murder.
Extra officers are now patrolling the area to reassure the local community.
Officers are appealing to anybody who has information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Arabella Rees said: “The local community were understandably shocked at the police presence in the area yesterday – we responded with armed officers as a precautionary measure.
“I would like to reassure people that we made an arrest hours later, a man is currently in police custody, and we are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident,” she added.
