A drive-through Coronavirus testing facility will open this week at Abercynon Park & Ride Overflow Car Park

A drive-through Coronavirus testing facility will open this week at Abercynon Park & Ride Overflow Car Park as part of the Government’s UK-wide drive to increase testing for thousands more NHS and other essential workers.

Staffed by Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB staff, and in partnership with Public Health Wales, the Centre will operate on an appointment-only basis for key workers, and those in close contact with people who are ‘shielding’, with symptoms of COVID-19.

Testing appointment requests can be made via a designated contact centre by contacting 01656 752993 (7 days a week, 9am-5pm).

Those eligible for testing will be key workers, members of their household, those in close contact with people who are shielding and informal carers, who meet the case definition for COVID-19, which is displaying any of the following:
• Fever (37.8c or higher)
• A new or continuous cough
• New onset of influenza like illness (including muscle aches and tiredness)
• Cold like symptoms (including headache, runny nose, sore eyes – that is not consistent with hay fever)
• Loss of sense of taste or smell

Individuals who receive a test will receive their results via text message.

INDIVIDUALS ELIGIBLE FOR TESTING:

1.Health and Social Care key workers, including Agency Social Care workers.

2.LRF key workers – Police; Fire and Rescue, Local Authority (not only social care), Welsh Water, Power Companies, Prison Service

3.Other key workers – those in critical positions – including, those working in Education, Childcare, other key public sector workers. The full list is available here: https://gov.wales/critical-workers-testing-policy-coronavirus-covid-19-html

4.Those in close contact with people who are ‘shielding’ – so household members or informal carers. Including those providing support to those that are shielding – for instance those going shopping or picking up prescriptions etc.
