Welsh Government must not delay in responding to disability access report

The Children’s Commissioner for Wales has branded Welsh Government guidance on how schools support the needs of disabled children “out of date”.

The criticism comes in a new report by Sally Holland, who said more must be done by Welsh Government to support learning and access for pupils with disabilities.

Responding to the report, Darren Millar AM, Welsh Conservative Shadow Secretary for Education and Children, said:

“The physical ability of a child should not be a barrier to education in the 21st century.

“Welsh Government has had more than four years to respond to the previous Children Commissioner’s review looking at issues around disability access, but here we are in 2018 and nothing has happened.

“There must be no further delay in the Welsh Government’s response to this report, and I implore ministers to study these latest findings closely to ensure that pupils with disabilities can have the support they need to achieve their educational ambitions.”
