Welsh Government must follow NHS England on single-sex wards

Commenting on the announcement that NHS England is issuing new guidance that patients should be assigned to single-sex wards based on their biological sex assigned at birth, Natasha Asghar MS, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Care, said:

“This is a welcome announcement for patients in England.

“Women should not have to worry about their privacy, dignity or safety when they are admitted to hospital.

“The Welsh Government must now follow the lead of NHS England in ensuring access to single-sex wards that align with a patient’s biological sex as assigned at birth.

“Every patient deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and that must include protecting the provision of single-sex accommodation.”
