Caerphilly DofE participants contribute more than 4,400 volunteering hours

Young people completing their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through Caerphilly County Borough Council dedicated 4,485 hours to volunteering between April 2025 and March 2026.

Their combined contribution has been calculated as having a social value of £33,861.75, recognising the positive impact their work has made within local communities.

Volunteering is a key part of the DofE programme, giving young people an opportunity to support causes that matter to them while developing confidence, leadership and practical skills.

The council’s DofE programme is led by Caerphilly Adventures, whose staff work alongside DofE leaders to help young people access high-quality experiences and progress through their Awards.

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure, said: “This is a fantastic achievement that demonstrates the positive contribution our young people make to their communities. Thank you to every participant, member of staff and DofE leader who made it possible.”

Through volunteering, leadership and service within their communities, DofE participants can build relationships, develop a stronger sense of belonging and gain valuable skills for the future.

The council’s delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award supports its Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029, helping young people access varied opportunities to develop skills, become more active and achieve their potential.
