Council acts to address serious criminal activity at Bargoed property

Caerphilly County Borough Council has secured a possession order on a council-owned property in Bargoed, following serious breaches of a contract holder’s occupation contract.

The action was taken by the Council’s Caerphilly Homes Anti-Social Behaviour Team after the contract holder was convicted of offences relating to the supply of Class A drugs. The case followed a police investigation led by Gwent Police, which resulted in the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of the individual for offences involving cocaine.

Working in close partnership with Gwent Police, the team initiated possession proceedings under the terms of the occupation contract. The court granted the order after considering the seriousness of the offences and the impact on the local community.

Cllr Shayne Cook, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, said “Drug-related activity can leader to wider issues for local communities, including anti-social behaviour and crime.  This case demonstrates the Council’s commitment to work with partners, including Gwent Police to take firm and decisive action to ensure our homes are not used for illegal activities.”

Caerphilly Homes will continue to work with partner agencies to identify and take robust action against individuals whose behaviour undermines the safety and wellbeing of local communities.

Residents experiencing anti-social behaviour linked to Caerphilly Homes contract holders, members of their household or visitors are encouraged to report concerns by contacting the Anti-Social Behaviour Team on 01443 811440 or emailing caerphillyhomesasb@caerphilly.gov.uk.
