A Mountain Ash woman is preparing to shave her head in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support after the charity helped her family through one of the most difficult times in their lives.
Eileen Bogue is taking on the Brave the Shave challenge on 24 July 2026, with the aim of raising £2,000 to help Macmillan continue providing vital support to people living with cancer and their families.
The cause is deeply personal to Eileen.
“My family received incredible support from Macmillan when my father was nearing the end of his life. The compassion and care they showed us during that difficult time has never been forgotten.”
Eileen explained that she is now the same age her father was when he was diagnosed with cancer, prompting her to reflect on his journey and the support her family received.
“Realising I had reached the same age as my dad when he became ill really made me stop and think. Braving the Shave is my way of honouring his memory and saying thank you to Macmillan for everything they did for our family, and for the support they continue to provide to so many others.”
The campaign has already attracted fantastic support from across the local community. Family, friends and colleagues at Eileen’s local nursing home have all rallied behind her fundraising efforts.
Local businesses have also stepped forward to help. The Baileys Arms in Mountain Ash has kindly offered to host the event, while Mojos Hair Salon is helping to promote the fundraiser.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, Eileen has already raised more than £1,000—halfway towards her £2,000 target.
She is now appealing to the wider community to help her reach her goal before the big day.
Anyone wishing to support Eileen’s fundraising can do so via her fundraising page.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help Macmillan continue providing practical, emotional and financial support to people affected by cancer.
The Brave the Shave event will take place on Friday, 24 July 2026.
