Major national retailer NEXT has been given the green light to open its first store in the Caerphilly county borough.
Planning permission has been granted for NEXT to establish a new store within a vacant unit on Gallagher Retail Park, conveniently located close to Caerphilly town centre.
NEXT will invest £1.9million developing the new 1,373sqm store, resulting in 21 new full-time jobs. The store will offer clothing, footwear and homeware and features a mezzanine at first floor level as well as a café
Leader of Council, Cllr Jamie Pritchard said, “This is great news for residents and is a real boost for the local economy. We have worked closely with NEXT to support their application to open this exciting new store in Caerphilly and now look forward to the development taking shape over the coming months.”
Deputy Leader of Council, Cllr Shayne Cook added, “The new NEXT planning application has been extremely well received by residents and promises to be a brilliant attraction. Most importantly, this new development will encourage more people to shop local and access an improved retail offer without having to travel outside the county borough.”
A Next spokesperson said, “Next are extremely excited to add Caerphilly to our store portfolio. We look forward to welcoming all the local residents later this year and would like to thank Caerphilly Council for their help and support with planning process for what we believe will be great addition to the town.”
During the public consultation period, 260 responses were sent in favour of the application, with just one against.
It is anticipated that the store will be operational late in 2026.
