Neighbourhood Manager PC Radford of Rhondda’s neighbourhood policing team attended at an address in Gelli last week and seized a Sur-Ron electric bike that was seen being ridden on a road within the area. As this bike is illegal to use on UK roads, the rider did not have the required driving licence or insurance, therefore putting themselves and other members of the public at risk of serious injury or death.
In addition to the offences, the rider had been seen pulling wheelies on the road amongst traffic, further endangering others and was not wearing a helmet of any description. The youth has been reported for numerous offences and will now have to answer for his behaviour at court.
South Wales Police are committed to removing these illegal bikes from our roads and ensuring everyone’s safety. If you have information regarding the use of Sur-Ron bikes or electric scooters, please let us know by ringing 101, making an online report via https://www.south-wales.police.uk/ or using https://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/ if you want to remain anonymous.
