Families are being invited to enjoy the first public climbing wall sessions at the Centre for Skills and Learning in Pontllanfraith this February half term.
Taking place on Wednesday 18th February, the sessions offer a fun, active experience for children and families, providing something the whole family can enjoy together during the school holidays.
Places must be booked in advance via the Leisure Lifestyle app, with sessions costing £8 per person. Each session is limited to eight participants and is open to those aged 7+, with a minimum weight of 10kg and a maximum weight of 140kg. All specialist safety equipment and harnesses are provided as part of the session.
Led by Caerphilly Adventures, the sessions will run at the following times:
- 9:45–10:45
- 11:00–12:00
- 12:45–13:45
- 14:00–15:00
The Centre for Skills and Learning opened in September, and these sessions mark the introduction of the climbing wall as part of the overall offer , giving residents the opportunity to experience one of the centre’s new facilities.
Cllr Carol Andrews, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Communities and Transformation, said:
“The Centre for Skills and Learning represents a significant investment in education across the county borough. While the education elements of the site will open in the future, facilities like the climbing wall show how the centre is designed to support learning, skills development and confidence-building alongside wider community use.”
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, added:
“These sessions are a great way for families to be active together during half term. Opening the climbing wall to the public gives people the chance to enjoy a new leisure facility in a safe, welcoming environment.”
The Centre for Skills and Learning forms part of a wider programme of investment supporting education, skills development and community use across the county borough.
The project has been funded through the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, with additional match funding. It forms part of the council’s ambitious Place Shaping programme and supports the objectives of the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019–2029, which is committed to increasing participation and improving opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.
