People who rely on school and college transport across Wales are being urged to tune in tomorrow, 14 January, as the Senedd debates a major petition calling for a review of Home-to-School Transport guidance across Wales.
The petition, titled “To review all guidance on Home to School Transport for all of Wales. Free access to an education”, was submitted by Tina Collins and received 11,790 signatures, triggering a formal debate in the Senedd.

The petition highlights the growing difficulties many children and young people face in accessing education, including:
- A lack of free or direct transport to school or college
- Safety concerns about children walking long distances on increasingly unsafe roads
- The impact on learners with underlying, hidden, or undiagnosed illnesses
- The financial strain on families living in poverty who cannot afford public transport
Campaigners argue that every child and young person should be able to attend education without struggle, particularly as some students are legally required to remain in education until the end of Year 11.
Tomorrow’s debate gives Members of the Senedd the opportunity to discuss whether current guidance is fair, safe, and fit for purpose, and whether changes are needed to ensure free and equal access to education for all learners in Wales.
How to Watch
The debate will be broadcast live on Senedd.tv and can be watched online here:
