Dare Valley Country Park Footpath Reopens to Public

A well-used footpath in Dare Valley Country Park has reopened to the public following work by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council officers, restoring access to a popular walking route.

Footpath 69, now designated as an official Public Right of Way, had previously been difficult to access, but residents have welcomed its reopening and the efforts made to allow public use once again.

However, visitors are being advised to take care when using the path, as it remains rough and uneven in places. Sections of the route are narrow, with areas of surface erosion and steep changes in level, particularly near the riverbank. Video footage shared online shows that some parts of the path may be challenging for less mobile users.

The Council has confirmed that arrangements are already in place for a site visit to assess the condition of the footpath. Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, Councillor Ann Crimmings, acknowledged the concerns raised but noted that residents are grateful for the work undertaken to reopen the route.

Public rights of way must be maintained so they are safe and reasonably accessible, and it is understood that further inspection and consideration of remedial work will now take place.

In the meantime, members of the public using Footpath 69 are encouraged to proceed with caution, particularly after wet weather, and to wear suitable footwear.

Join us on one of the oldest river paths in Dare Valley, which is now reopen thanks to Mr Pip campaigning and being persistent along with others. We’ve walked this path for over 40 years and it was blocked in 2022. No reopen and a fully fledged public right of way in Dare Valley Country Park. #win #walk #access #public #rhonddacynontaff
