The latest labour market statistics for Wales, covering July 2025, revealed that Wales’ employment rate is now the lowest in the whole UK, at 70.8%.
Economic inactivity in Wales remains the highest in Britain, at 25.6% and unemployment has risen to 4.7%.
Welsh Conservatives lay blame at the Welsh Labour Government which controls Wales’ economic levers and has enjoyed repeated support from Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats to remain in office for 26 years.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Energy, Samuel Kurtz MS said:
“Under the Welsh Labour Government, the Welsh economy is broken. It is clear that only the Welsh Conservatives can be trusted to get Wales working again and make our nation open for business.
“Much of the blame must also be levelled at Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats, who have repeatedly propped up Labour budgets over the past 26 years. Their backing has enabled damaging policies such as new tourism taxes and the highest business rates regime in Britain, which continue to punish our high streets.
“The Welsh Conservatives would take a different path by backing our key industries such as agriculture, tourism and the energy sector. We’d also scrap business rates for small businesses, cut rates in town centres, and axe Labour, Plaid and the Liberal Democrats’ toxic Tourism Tax before it even comes into force.”
