Hirwaun and Penderyn and Rhigos Matters
Really wouldn’t want to do this journey twice a day, five days a week and definitely wouldn’t want my 11 year old doing it. We did 2 routes to Rhydywaun, Adam from Denbeigh Court, Karen from Fairview. Thank you to the concerned parents who joined us. We left at 0800hrs, It took us 45 minutes we were late for registration.
The weather was kind to us today, walking in the cold and rain and having to sit in wet clothes/carry wet coats from class to class would be awful.
Main issues on the route
– several junctions, including 3-way to manoeuvre
– crossing busy road at end of Brecon Rd (our primary school children have to do this too)
– narrowed pavements from overgrowth or parked vehicles
-overhanging branches and brambles
– lots of heavy goods vehicles passing very close to you on the main road
– narrow, unlit gullies at end of route
– volume of traffic on the 40mph road, it didn’t feel safe
– witnessed buses and children arriving late at school
– witnessed size and weight of school bags
It really wasn’t a pleasant walk and certainly didn’t set you up for a day of learning! Our children should not be arriving at school, tired , wet and cold, or anxious about being penalised for being late.
“Where do I go now Mam cos I’m late for registration”
