Boost for Neighbourhood Policing in South Wales

Safer Streets Summer Initiative sees increase in high-visibility patrols across key areas of south Wales

The commencement of the new Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee (NPG) will see an uplift in activity to tackle Anti-social behaviour in South Wales Police’s (SWP) communities.

From June 30, 2025, as part of the Safer Streets Summer Initiative, operational activity will increase throughout the summer across towns, parks, and beaches to ensure our communities feel safe and respected.

Additionally, in line with the NPG, each community will have a named, contactable officer listed for their area enabling them to reach out, engage with the local teams and be kept informed on local issues and priorities.

This option to contact an officer supports the already running website ‘South Wales Listens’ which allows the public to give feedback on what SWP is doing to tackle local issues, suggest opportunities for change, and access crime prevention advice.

In addition, by the end of summer, 70 new Neighbourhood Policing Officers will be on the streets of south Wales to provide a high-visibility reassurance to our communities, with a focus on tackling persistent offenders of anti-social behaviour.

The re-allocation of officers into Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) is the result of UK Government’s pledge to restore neighbourhood policing.

Assistant Chief Constable Joanna Maal said:

“The boost of operational activity across our communities is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring residents and businesses feel safe every day.

“I really encourage residents and businesses to take some time to familiarise themselves with their neighbourhood officer contact, take the opportunities to engage with them, provide vital information to assist in keeping communities safe.”
