Wales’ First Minister spent this afternoon tying herself in knots over Welsh Labour’s response to the UK Government’s supposed immigration crackdown.

At First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) today, the oposition Leader challenged the First Minister to agree with him and accept the Prime Minister’s characterisation of the United Kingdom of being at risk of becoming “an island of strangers”, due to the rate of immigration and a failure of many to properly integrate.

The Welsh Conservatives highlighted the work of Kemi Badenoch in introducing the Deportations Bill, which includes significant measures to remove those here illegally, introducing an annual cap on legal migration and disapplying the Human Rights Act for all immigration-related matters.

Commenting after his exchange with the First Minister, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS said:

“The First Minister spent this afternoon tying herself in knots over Welsh Labour’s response to the UK Government’s supposed immigration crackdown.

“The truth is that Welsh Labour have proven themselves even weaker than our disingenuous Prime Minister on legal and illegal migration, with Plaid Cymru pushing Labour further from the public on these issues.

“We Conservatives are clear: we must cap legal migration, deport foreign criminals and those who arrive illegally, and bring an end to the system of endless taxpayer funded legal appeals and exploitation of our courts.”
