Newydd Housing Association, part of the Cadarn Housing Group, continues to invest in the provision of affordable homes in Rhondda Cynon Taf with the commencement of two new housing developments, providing 34 affordable homes in the county.
The schemes in Cwmbach and Tonyrefail will be built in partnership with contractors M&J Cosgrove Ltd and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, supported by funding from the Welsh Government Social Housing Grant Programme.
The first development at the site of the former Cwmbach Primary School will provide 17 two-bedroom bungalows, all built to the highest energy efficiency rating of EPC A. The homes will be equipped with non-fossil fuelled heating systems and solar panels, ensuring low environmental impact and comfortable homes for tenants.
The timber frame structures for this £4.8million development will be constructed by Celtic Offsite, located merely 15 miles away. This investment not only supports local jobs and skills but also aligns with Newydd’s commitment of building sustainable and energy-efficient housing. A sustainable drainage system will be incorporated into the development, including a wildflower area to enhance the site’s biodiversity.
The second development on the High Street in Tonyrefail will offer 17 new homes for affordable rent, also built to EPC A. The scheme consists of 14 one and two bedroom flats, 2 two-bedroom houses as well as a two-bedroom bungalow.
This £4.2 million scheme received funding from the Welsh Government Social Housing Grant Programme to address local housing needs.
Jason Wroe, Chief Executive of Cadarn Group said, “We are excited to contribute to the growth and sustainability of Rhondda Cynon Taf through these significant investments in new homes. These developments not only provide much-needed affordable housing but also support local jobs and skills whilst promoting environmental sustainability.”
Gary Cosgrove, Director at M&J Cosgrove Construction Ltd, “‘We are delighted to be part of two significant schemes in RCT, currently underway, and to reaffirm our strong commitment to working alongside our valued partner, Newydd Housing Association, on these important projects’
Cllr Mark Norris, Cabinet Member for Prosperity and Development, attended a launch event to celebrate the scheme’s progress. He said, “This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together to tackle housing challenges in our communities. These new homes in Abercynon will provide much-needed affordable accommodation while meeting high environmental standards, ensuring they are fit for the future.”
“Working with partners such as Newydd to deliver homes for our residents is just one of the many actions Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is taking to create much needed homes, alongside our incredibly successful programme to bring empty homes back into use and our Extra Care schemes to provide independent living for older residents with support if required.
To apply for a home in Rhondda Cynon Taf, residents need to register with Homefinder RCT, the housing register for the local authority.
