Would it be better to call an election now? Labour ministers need the help of at least one MS from the Welsh opposition to get their £26bn budget plans passed in the Senedd. It’s looking like Liberal Democrat Jane Dodds is keeping Labour in control.

With the deal done, remember when you vote at the next elections it was Liberal Democrats just like Plaid Cymru who were keeping labour in control in Wales

Minister Huw Irranca-Davies. He said: “I believe that now is the right time to move to ban greyhound racing in Wales.

The Welsh Labour Government have published their Final Budget for the 2025-26 financial year.

Labour has no majority in the Senedd and so needs at least one opposition vote to pass their budget, with Liberal Democrat Jane Dodds expected to allow this budget to pass.

Welsh Conservatives have been heavily critical, following the draft budget, of significantly increased spending on ‘Central Services and Administration’ (£117 million in just two years) as well as significant spending on agency staffing in the Welsh NHS.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Sam Rowlands MS said:

“Labour’s budget will not fix Wales. It will not address the people’s priorities, with woeful outcomes like excessive waiting lists and low educational standards speaking for themselves.

“Whether it’s Plaid or the Lib Dems propping Labour up, it is clear that only the Welsh Conservatives have consistently opposed Labour’s damaging spending plans.

“Welsh Conservatives would instead focus on putting money back into Welsh people’s pockets, starting with creating a Welsh Winter Fuel Allowance to replace the payment cut by Keir Starmer, funded by slashing inflated spending on Welsh Government bureaucrats.”
