Responding to the Welsh Government admitting mistakes with their 20 mph speed limit, Peter Fox MS, Shadow Cabinet Secretary For Infrastructure, Transport and Rural Affairs, said:
“This is not the first time The Welsh Government have admitted this policy was badly implemented, yet we still haven’t seen any significant changes being made.
“It is not right that the job of fixing the mistakes of this Labour Government has been passed onto already overstretched councils.
“It is the Labour Government’s responsibility to ensure speed limits are targeted appropriately, focusing on sensitive areas where they make sense, to restore public confidence and ease the burden on councils and drivers.”
20MPH: A quarter of all fines occur on just two roads
Responding to the news that 25% of motorists committing 20mph speed offences have been caught on just two roads in Wales, Peter Fox said:
“Whilst we have consistently supported a 20mph speed limit outside sensitive areas, Labour’s rollout of the scheme has led to nothing but confusion and frustration.
“Passing the responsibility of reviewing roads onto already overstretched councils, who are taking far too long to carry out this review, has only added to motorists’ confusion.
“It’s time for Labour to ensure speed limits are targeted appropriately, focusing on areas where they make sense, to restore public confidence and ease the burden on drivers.”
