FMQs: “giving with one hand, taking with the other” with public sector NI

Labour’s £110 million raid on Welsh pensioners, hundreds of thousands of Welsh pensioners will lose up to £300 a year after Keir Starmer decided to end the universal Winter Fuel Payment – taking £110 million from Welsh pensioners. At the same time the Welsh Labour Government is spending £120 million on more politicians, Labour will be forcing pensioners every winter to decide between heating and eating.

Commenting following his first exchange with the First Minister at FMQs, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS said:

“It’s clear that Labour, in budgets at both ends of the M4, is giving with one hand only to take away with the other.

“The First Minister has failed today to give any indication of the true cost of Rachel Reeves’ devastating jobs tax for public services, which will undoubtedly siphon off hundreds of millions of pounds from frontline services in Wales and simply send it back to the UK Treasury.

“Successive Welsh Labour Governments have broken Wales. Only the Welsh Conservatives will develop a plan to fix it.”
