Within Emergency Departments across Wales, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales has noted overcrowding, long waits for triage and long waits for treatment or admission into the most appropriate beds. The challenge is a complex one, especially in relation to health and social care service interaction, but our work has identified areas where settings can do more to tackle this sustained challenge.

Commenting on Healthcare Inspectorate Wales’ Annual Report that identified “sustained pressure in patient admission areas” as well as “overcrowded emergency departments, delays in ambulance handover of patients and long waits for triage and treatment to start”, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, Sam Rowlands MS said:
“We aren’t going to improve the situation for patients without learning best practice from other parts of the UK and fully accepting cross-border support. Labour must stop doing things differently for the sake of it.”
“These findings should stand as a wakeup call to the Labour Welsh Government. Ministers need to get to grips with the crisis at the heart of the Welsh NHS.
“This report tells us what we already knew, waiting lists are far too long in Labour-run Wales and they’re still growing.
