Lord Darzi’s report provides an expert understanding of the current performance of the NHS across England not Wales
The National Health Service is in serious trouble in Wales? When will Wales have an Independent investigation of the devolved Welsh NHS?
In July 2024, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care commissioned Lord Darzi to conduct an immediate and independent investigation of the NHS.
Lord Darzi’s report provides an expert understanding of the current performance of the NHS across England and the challenges facing the healthcare system. Lord Darzi has considered the available data and intelligence to assess:
- patient access to healthcare
- the quality of healthcare being provided
- the overall performance of the health system
In line with the terms of reference of the investigation, Lord Darzi has only considered the state of the NHS in England. UK-wide analysis is occasionally used when making international comparisons.
Responding to the release of the Darzi report, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:
“By ignoring Labour’s atrocious record of running the NHS in Wales over the past 25 years, the hypocrisy from Labour is plain to see in this report.
“In Wales, Labour have cut the NHS budget three times and presided over the longest waiting lists in the UK, prioritising a bigger Senedd over a better funded Welsh NHS.
“The Welsh Conservatives believe it is past due for Labour to spend every penny they receive for health on the Welsh NHS, as opposed to prioritising the creation of 36 more politicians.”
