SFS piling more pressure on beleaguered industry

SFS piling more pressure on beleaguered industry

Having written to the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs on extreme weather costing farmers millions of pounds in Wales, Samuel Kurtz MS, Shadow Rural Affairs Minister, said:

“The continued and unprecedented rainfall is severely impacting Welsh farmers and agriculture. Crops haven’t been planted, silage is running low, and livestock has been turned out onto sodden land.

“I’ve urged the Welsh Government to support those most affected and would hope that the Welsh Government would agree with me that supporting the continued domestic production of food through this difficult time is of utmost importance.

“This winter is an example of why farm subsidy support is so vital and is a stark reminder to the Welsh Government on the need to get the Sustainable Farming Scheme working for our farmers.”
