Labour’s choice: improve the worst NHS pay offer in the UK or create 36 more politicians

Commenting as junior doctors in Wales begin a three-day strike and on a Welsh Conservative Written Question revealing the additional cost of meeting the independent pay review body recommendation, Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:

“These strikes will harm our Welsh NHS, which is already contending with the longest waits for treatment in the UK, but the blame lies squarely at the door of the Labour Government.

“In Conservative-run England, junior doctors have been offered a pay rise over double that of Labour-run Wales’ with Labour consistently putting the worst offer in the UK on the table, failing to even meet the independent pay review body’s recommendations.

“The Welsh Conservatives would spend the full Barnett uplift received for health on health and would at least match the independent recommendation, the cost of which is far lower than the cost of Labour and Plaid’s plans to create 36 more politicians.”
