LABOUR’S CLADDING SURVEY DELAYED

LABOUR’S CLADDING SURVEY DELAYED

A written question to the Labour’s Climate Change Minister asking how many buildings with cladding are still in the intrusive survey phase as part of the Welsh Building Safety Fund has revealed that there are still several buildings that are yet to be surveyed by the Labour Government.

•           One hundred and ninety-four (194) buildings have been identified for intrusive survey.

•           170 have been completed.

•           24 are still awaiting completion.

Commenting on the revelation, Welsh Conservative Shadow Housing Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, said:

I find it completely irresponsible and dangerous that the Labour Government have not completed the survey stage of cladded buildings in Wales.

The survey was scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022, the fact that we are now in the middle of winter of the following year is unacceptable. There will still be people waiting anxiously to find out if their building has potentially dangerous cladding.

I have long called out the Labour Government for their inaction on cladding in Wales, they are risking the lives of thousands of people living in potentially unsafe homes by not taking decisive action to see buildings made safe urgently.”
