Late covid-19 disclosures from Labour Government unacceptable
Commenting on the news that the Labour Government were late producing a full disclosure to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Russell George MS said:
“The First Minister, has so far refused to set up an independent Wales-specific Covid Inquiry despite the need for one being clear to all, with the exception of Mark Drakeford himself.
“These revelations prove that the Labour Government are not seriously engaging with the UK Covid Inquiry that they believe will be sufficient in answering the questions that bereaved families deserve, despite different decisions being taken here in Wales.

“It is clear that the Labour Government’s only priority is dodging scrutiny, as they fail to accept the need for a Covid Inquiry for Wales, fail to call for Welsh experts’ involvement in the UK Inquiry and fail to make timely disclosures to it.”
The fact that the Welsh Government did not disclose all relevant documents to the inquiry in the first draft of their witness statement meant that they had to be asked a second time by the inquiry to produce a full disclosure, which has undoubtedly caused delays.
