Award-winning discount food retailer Aldi, is bringing forward a planning application for a new store on the Aberaman Industrial Estate, Aberaman, Aberdare.

Welcome

Our proposals will deliver a multi-million-pound investment into Aberaman, Aberdare. The site is currently occupied by What! Stores Aberaman. This would be sub-divided / halved to accommodate its continued operation alongside the new Aldi store.

As we are sharing the site with What! Stores Aberaman we will be refurbishing and redeveloping the site to make the necessary alterations for a new food store. Additional works include modifications to the existing garden centre, delivery access arrangements, reconfiguring the carpark layout, landscaping, and other associated site works.

Our plans will create up to 30 new in-store jobs as well as further employment through construction and the supply chain. Situated in a convenient location for the residents of Aberaman local residents will be well served by a high-quality, low-cost discount retailer.

With the next nearest over 10 miles away in Merthyr Tydfil, Aldi believes that there is demand for a new store in this location.

Statutory pre-application consultation

As part of the statutory consultation process, Aldi triggered the 28-day pre-application consultation period on Monday 28 November 2022.

You can read detailed information about the proposals as well as the draft planning documents on the ‘Documents and Downloads’ section.

Aldi is looking to submit its planning application to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in January 2023.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on the proposals. To view our plans visit ‘Virtual Exhibition’ and complete our online feedback form.
