Labour’s environmental disaster holding back new houses

Commenting on the news that tens of thousands of new homes could face being delayed or scrapped because of river pollution, Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:

“This is a prime example of Labour’s overregulation damaging the economy and exacerbating the housing crisis.

“Not content with punishing farmers, Labour ministers and their nationalist coalition partners are now smothering housing developers in England and Wales.

“Let’s be clear, for years successive Labour Governments have failed to protect rivers through mismanagement of treatment works in Wales. Now we see another example of Labour ministers looking for someone else to blame.

“Labour ministers need to get to grips with environmental protection, establishing an Independent Office for Environmental Protection and tackling the lack of treatment works in Wales.”

It has been reported that delays could cost the economy of England and Wales £16 billion.

In 2019, 8% of species found in Wales were formally classified as threatened, up from 7% in 2016.
