Opening of a state-of-the-art Hummingbird Diabetes Centre
On Wednesday September 28, the new start-of-the art Hummingbird Centre officially opened in Gwaun Elai Health Park, Talbot Green – next to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
The new facility will help us to deliver improved patient-centered care for people with diabetes with access to the multi-disciplinary team including diabetes specialist nurses, diabetes dietitians, podiatrists and medical staff. In addition, the new unit will host Diabetes Eye Screening Wales and in due course a number of joint clinics with specialties such as nephrology and ophthalmology.
The center also houses a dedicated seminar room that will enable local and regional clinical meetings, facilitate the training and development of the multi-disciplinary team and the delivery of education and support for people living with diabetes.
Dr Philip Evans, CTMUHB Consultant Clinical Lead for Diabetes at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital said: “This is a fantastic new development for all patients and staff across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. To have this new unit which hosts all of the multidisciplinary team under one roof allows us to deliver patient-centered care, so the whole team can be accessed by the patient in one visit.”
Gethin Williams, diabetic patient added, “As a diabetic, it’s important that we have the latest technology and are kept up-to-date which this unit does. This unit will now benefit us, as patients, through its patient-centered care approach.”
